The Opportunity
We are currently seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to join our client, a well-established legal practice based in central Townsville. This is a full-time contract position, supporting a busy team of solicitors and playing a key role in the day-to-day operations of the office.

About the Role
As a Legal Assistant, you will be responsible for providing essential legal and administrative support while acting as a key point of contact for clients and internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Case Management
- Maintain organised electronic files and documentation systems
Document Drafting
- Prepare and edit legal documents including affidavits, contracts, subpoenas, briefs to counsel, and court forms
Client Liaison
- Manage client intake, take initial instructions, and provide general legal information (not advice)
- Triage client enquiries effectively
Administrative Support
- Manage diaries, appointments, and scheduling
- Conduct conflict checks and maintain accurate timesheets
- Assist with billing and end-of-month reporting
⚖️ Court Assistance
- File documents (including e-filing) and prepare court materials
- Provide logistical support for hearings and trials
General Office Duties
- Coordinate appointments, travel, and event bookings
- Support marketing initiatives and office operations
- Ensure office car availability and logbook compliance
- Assist with CPD tracking for solicitors
- Format and prepare internal documents
- Provide reception support when required
- Maintain office tidiness, kitchen duties, and general upkeep
- Manage stationery orders and supplies
- Assist with precedent development within internal systems
- Support onboarding and training of new staff
- Cross-train across various practice areas and procedures
About You
✔️ Legal Knowledge
- Strong understanding of legal procedures, terminology, and practice areas (e.g. family law, property, or litigation)
✔️ Technical Skills
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Experience with legal practice management systems
✔️ Communication
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Confident dealing with clients and stakeholders
✔️ Attention to Detail
- High level of accuracy and ability to meet strict deadlines
